More Insanity

I had another game idea that I want to work on.  This is becoming a bit of a problem now.  Every time I start getting into a project, I think of something else that I want to work on and then say, “Oh, that sounds like more fun.  Let’s go work on that instead!”  I won’t get into what the new one is, I’m not entirely sure myself yet, but I have started working on it which means I’m doing even less work on Strock and MD66.  Oh well.  Maybe someday I’ll actually finish something.  Before leaving MD66 though, I had at least managed to add rockets that fly between the planets trading and generating wealth for them.  It’s not a very sophisticated model, and somehow it still doesn’t work, but at least there are little rockets.  I still have to do the trigonometry to work out their rotations, but it’s something.  They’ll work eventually.  Hopefully.  In other news, I have Netflix now, so I don’t intend to ever finish anything again.  If I can at least get this post done that I can claim to have done something remotely productive today.  Otherwise, there isn’t much hope.

Planets

So there are planets now.  That’s about it.  I get very little work done.

Two of them, at least.

On the bright side, there’s a lot going on in the background here.  A data model for the galaxy, solar system and both planets being set up and technically the trade system is trying to run, although it doesn’t know how.  (That’s what I’m working on currently.)  Many To-dos still but the progress is nice to see.  In other news, I got about four more ideas for games, at least one of which I really want to start working on, but I am restraining myself for now.  I’m also working on a Wolfenstein 3D engine just for the heck of it, and because I find making things really helps me understand how they work.

And that’s about it.  Again, I get very little done.  Does getting Wildfire stars in CS:GO count as productivity?  Because then… actually then I still get nothing done.

Evolving Intentions

So MD66 was supposed to be a fairly simple game at the start.  Originally it was an idea I had for Ludum Dare a while ago, but after not using it I decided to try developing it anyways.  The more I work on it though, the more complicated my concepts become.  At the start my whole idea was summarized on a little whiteboard I keep beside my desk, which I’ll include an image of just for the heck of it:

(Funny story, I actually had to pull this off my Twitter. Turns out there wasn’t a copy on my Pc anywhere.)

Now I want randomly generated explorable star systems, customizable spaceships and a lot of other crap that wasn’t there at the beginning.  The problem is that I feel without a lot of this stuff the game won’t be much fun to play, but adding it and deciding it doesn’t work will end up being a huge waste of time.  So what to do?  Well I guess that I add it.  What’s that expression?  Nothing ventured, nothing gained?  (May I point out that Captain Cook ventured by exploring and ended up being eaten as a result?  Or that George Mallory ventured his way up Everest and then disappeared?  Just saying, nothing ventured, nothing lost is a better expression.)  I might as well try to gain something, and since there’s no hope for me to regain my old CS:GO rank, this will have to do.
